Dhurringile Mansion Revitalisation Committee: Building a Legacy for the Future
Since August 2024, Destination Goulburn Valley (DGV) has been involved with the Dhurringile
Mansion Revitalisation Committee, a dedicated group of local community members working
towards the preservation and revitalisation of this historic site. The Committee has been
engaged in community consultation to determine the priorities and desires of locals for
redeveloping Dhurringile Mansion, a site rich with cultural and historical significance in the
region.
Vicki Scott, Executive Officer of DGV, is optimistic about the collaborative nature of the discussions and the
potential to forge a cohesive plan that not only respects the mansion’s legacy but also drives regional prosperity.
“The conversations happening now are encouraging, with all parties sharing a genuine interest in
preserving the site and transforming it into a key regional asset. We are hopeful that an agreed plan can
be reached that will benefit the region for years to come.”
The redevelopment of Dhurringile Mansion presents a unique opportunity to create a
destination that captures the imagination of both locals and visitors. The community has
expressed a wide array of ideas for the site, ranging from heritage tours and cultural exhibitions
to boutique accommodations and hospitality offerings. Each idea has merit, and the
Committee is working diligently to weigh these options, ensuring the final outcome aligns with
local priorities and fosters sustainable growth.
DGV’s involvement has been pivotal in ensuring the redevelopment has a clear connection to
the broader regional tourism and economic strategies. As an advocate for regional growth, DGV
sees the Dhurringile project as a potential catalyst for attracting more visitors to the Goulburn
Valley area. It aligns well with the organisation’s broader goals of promoting tourism, hospitality,
and community engagement, and tapping into the growing interest in cultural tourism.
The redevelopment project could enhance the region's tourism profile by adding a new and
unique attraction that would appeal to both domestic and international visitors. With the right
investment and marketing. The flow-on effect could stimulate job creation, support local
artisans, and encourage more investment into the area.
Community engagement has been a core element of the revitalisation process. Local residents
have expressed a deep connection to the mansion and its place in the region’s history. From
being a private residence to serving as a prisoner-of-war camp during World War II, Dhurringile
holds stories that resonate with many. There is a strong desire to see these stories preserved
and shared with future generations. DGV has been instrumental in ensuring that this community
feedback is incorporated into the planning process, with the goal of developing a site that locals
can take pride in and that visitors will find compelling.
The revitalisation of Dhurringile Mansion is a prime example of how regional collaboration can
drive both cultural preservation and economic growth. As DGV continues its work alongside the
Dhurringile Mansion Revitalisation Committee, the future of this iconic site looks bright, with
the potential to contribute significantly to the region’s identity and long-term prosperity.
